Wiki Safety, Rules, & Expectations

Thank you to everyone who has contributed ideas to this page. All of your rules and expectations have been included in some form and condensed into a shorter list.

In general, it is expected that everyone who participates will act honorably with respect and responsibility, abiding by all school rules and common sense regarding what is right and wrong.

Specific Rules & Expectations

  1. All students and participants in this wiki project must agree to the terms and conditions of this agreement.
  2. Use proper English, grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation when posting, creating your profile, or sending messages.
  3. Mrs. Chartier will make every reasonable effort to monitor conduct on this wiki in order to maintain a positive learning community. All participants will respect each other’s time and efforts by supporting the same positive approach.
  4. Never-EVER-EVER give out or record personal information on wikis. Do not use last names, phone numbers or home addresses, schedules or locations at any particular time. This is especially important to remember if you have a personal online journal or blog elsewhere.
  5. Our Wiki is really just online extensions of our school. Speech, images, music, and video that are not appropriate for class are not appropriate for your electronic forums either. While you are strongly encouraged to engage in debate and conversation with other participants, we also expect that you will conduct yourself in a manner representative of Lake Denoon.
  6. The IM & Chat room(s) on this wiki are for public conversation for everyone who is a member of Wiki212. If you'd like to engage in private chat, please use the telephone or other IM/Chat program for that purpose.
  7. The electronic forum is a public space. If you put it on the Internet, odds are that it will stay on the Internet. FOREVER. This means that, ten years from now, when you are looking for a job, an employer might discover some really hateful or immature things you said when you were younger and more prone to foolish things. So be sure that anything you display...is something you are proud of. Otherwise, it could come back to haunt you.
  8. Do not link to anything you haven’t personally previewed. When you link to something, you should make sure it is something that you really want to be associated with. If a link contains material that might be creepy or make some people uncomfortable, you should use a different source.
  9. Don't mass message all members to ask or tell about online status. Use mass messaging only if your question or comment is for the good of the whole group, or is information that the majority of members will be interested to read.
  10. Whenever e-mailing someone, always put a subject on the message.
  11. Respect a reasonable self-, or family-imposed curfew (ie: whatever your parents deem to be appropriate for computer use on school days/weekends/ in the summer.) PLEASE don't spend your whole day "plugged in"! GO OUTSIDE! GET FRESH AIR AND SUNSHINE! EXERCISE! GET A HOBBY! GET A LIFE!.
  12. Ask permission from an author before editing his/her posts. Also record your reasoning for the edits using the Discussion Tab.
  13. Don't use word phrases such as "LOL" if you don't know what they mean. Keep all language rated G.
  14. Use only your own Wiki Account. Do not logon to other peoples' accounts or check other peoples' email even if you know the password or have permission.
  15. Keep your SN consistent. Changing it often will cause other members lose track of your identity and will make communication with you more difficult.
  16. Feel free to proofread other people's posts, make suggestions for change, and correct errors that you discover. Make sure YOU are right before making any changes.

Consequences

Students who make little to no effort to follow these rules and expectations will be notified ONCE that they have been placed on Wiki Probation. Wiki Probation lasts as long as Mrs. Chartier's memory does. ;)

Once you are placed on probation, any additional disregard for our rules and expectations will cause you to be PERMANENTLY removed from the Wiki.

Safety

In the interest of students’ safety, the following restrictions have been configured on the wiki:

  • Only the teacher can confirm or enter registrations for new members.external image 600px-Stop_sign.png

  • Mrs. Chartier will be notified of any edits to the wiki.

Any questions or comments regarding these policies or consequences should be brought to Mrs. Chartier's attention.
